A passion at the crossing of cultures

If our unique boutique is located in Paris, the story of our dresses starts million of kilometres away, on the beautiful red island of Madagascar, in the Indian ocean.

It is in the beloved home country of the brand’s founder, Monique Ramahay, that our dresses and baby garments come alive. Each piece is handmade with passion and care by our team of experts in smocks and embroideries.

For more than three decades, the secrets of embroidering  geometrical or figurative shapes on top of tightly pleated panels of fabric are preciously passed down from one generation to another within our atelier. Ancient know-how first imported by European missionaries, this craftsmanship has today become part and parcel of the Madagascan heritage.

Of all colours, sizes and shapes, smocks and embroideries make the success and style of our dresses. Made with traditional hoops, our atelier is able to create the most complex and sophisticated embroideries. Offering unlimited possibilities, they enhance our creativity. Each season is an opportunity to experiment and renew our themes and collections.

Likewise, our fabrics, practically all purchased in Madagascar, are a vast playing field. We tend to favour noble fabrics like cotton and silk but enjoy adding a little fantasy with organza.

Inspiration is gleaned from nature, seasons, the fantasy of children’s universe and most of all French culture. Indeed, raised between France and Madagascar, our designer is imbued with French elegance, refinement and art of living since childhood.

In love with the capital’s architecture, exquisite book shops, traditional cafés, quaint boutiques, hidden treasures and rich cultural life, the choice of a Parisian boutique came as an evidence.

Thus, once the very last stitch has been made, our clothes then cross the ocean to reach our unique boutique.

Nestled in the 6th arrondissement, L’Île aux Fées is very proud to be one of the only Parisian boutique still offering handmade smocked dresses today. Uniting the best of France and Madagascar, each dress holds both a touch of Parisian style and Madagascan heritage.

To share this passion beyond the two cultures and make the dreams of little girls all around the globe come true we created our online shop. Shipped internationally, Charlotte Sy Dimby celebrates the magic and innocence of childhood worldwide.
